I firmly believe there are no coincidences in life. So when this book popped into my consciousness, I took the right action, picked it up and read it cover to cover. Cavanaugh’s writing style is easy, inviting and engaging. The idea that I can be the change I want to see in others is not a new one. But the manner in which she delivers the message and packages how exactly to be that change is refreshing.

Every day when I walk out my door I actively work to “set my intention.” This book has provided me more tools in my toolbox to help carry myself in a professional, positive way. If I want others to be engaged, I need to lead by example. Pretty simple stuff yet often hard to recall as I go about my days and interact with colleagues, family and friends.

It doesn’t matter if you lead a large group or you manage projects – this book has something for everyone. I loved it so much and was inspired to a degree I’ve not felt in a long while. Taking the message to heart – be contagious with the culture you want to live in – I outfitted my business unit with copies of this book. It’s that good. I was inspired to share the author’s message to as many as I can.

This is one of those books that will be dog-eared and marked up with multiple readings over time. It’s a valuable and timeless message that hits home for wherever you are personally or professionally. Well done Anese Cavanaugh.

I found this book so inspring that I bought copies for two of my colleagues right away. The big takeaway is that you yourself are an important factor in the culture of your organization. It’s easy to blame others or circumstances but that shouldn’t keep you from standing up for your beliefs and values. Part of this is also looking at yourself and caring for yourself to have the strength to show up. All of this was an eye opener and a game changer for me.

    Everyone should read this book!
First - it's compelling and fun to read... There are real people stories - people you can relate to, and want to follow.
Second - it's about so much more than "Culture." Culture is such a corporate buzzword, but the truth is any culture is made up by individual people. What we call a "culture" is just a byproduct of their attitudes & actions - how they show up, how they treat each other, what they bring to the table.

What you quickly discover from this book is the individual impact that YOU have - whether it's at work, in a classroom, or in your family - you have more impact than you know... Which means you can influence the outcome!

What Anese provides in this book are EASY ACTIONS you can take help you not only have more impact, but get more clear on ideal outcomes, and make the most of your personal IEP.

You owe it to yourself, your teams, your company, your family, and the causes you care about to get this book and expand your IEP. You'll be glad you did!

Contagious Culture is a great read for any leader who wants to increase their team's level of creativity and energy. If you've struggled to understand why the same words and tactics have an entirely different impact from one day to the next, this book will help you see the difference that 'how you show up' can make, and teach you how to consistently create the kind of experience that leaves team members, partners and clients energized and inspired.

Anese's IEP (Intentional Energetic Presence) methodology has been a secret weapon for leaders at some of the most innovative, creative organizations in the world, including IDEO, Zingermans and Cooper. I've had the privilege to attend one of Anese's workshops and seen firsthand how effective and pragmatic her work is - it made an immediate difference in my effectiveness as a CEO. Moreover, Anese is one of those rare human beings that truly walks her talk - she shows up with a grace, generosity and confidence that immediately transforms the environment she's in. Now, we can all learn to do the same by understanding the exact method she uses and has taught to many of the most innovative leaders in the world.

Great ideas. A bit repetitive. Inspiring.
  • Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2017
Anese gracefully straddles the realms of “woo" and the worldly with Contagious Culture, helping us get conscious and intentional about our impact on whomever we are working with, and, ultimately, on behalf of. I appreciated Anese’s powerful overviews on leadership as well as her more granular, simple suggestions — for example, what to do with sticky issues like complaints, jealousy, and burnout.

Even though I am not a leader of a large team or organization, this book has nevertheless spoken to me as a small biz owner and coach. I’ve enjoyed this deeper look at the ways I already am “contagious” to my small support staff, my clients, course participants, and, of course, my own self. Anese’s passion for this work comes clearly through these pages, and I found this book a profound, yet also smooth and easy, read.
